Hi everyone,
As some of you may know, I have decided to take a hiatus from Uvic to see what else there might be for out there for me, in the big world. I figure after 14 years of school, I need a break!
I don't want to spend my year off sitting in an office in Vancouver so I am off to Paris on August 25th to be an Au Pair for a French family. For those of you who don't know, an Au Pair is somewhere between nanny and babysitter. I will be working around 30 hours a week, which leaves me plenty of time to explore Paris and take French classes.I met the Bringue family on an online database and I had several phone conversations with them before making my decision. They have 3 kids, ages 14(boy), 11(boy), and 6(girl) but the 14 yr old goes to boarding school and is only home on the weekend. The 11 and 6 year olds will be my main responsibilities.
The process has been long, and I am still in the middle of it. I have an appointment on July 7th, at the French consulate to apply for my visa.
Anyways, I am starting this blog first and foremost to keep in touch with you, my family and friends and let you see what I am up to. The other reason I am doing this is because I want to be able to look back on this trip and really remember what I have done, the people I meet and all the great things I see. I am in the process of looking for a camera so I am hoping the main part of this blog will be photos!!!
I probably wont be posting much until I leave because there really isn't too much to say until I start this adventure, but I will keep you updated on the Visa process and all my preparations.
Love you all,
M
